Peter the Great was considered one of the greatest czar of all of Russian history. In Peter's reign he had many accomplishments such as military accomplishments, founding St. Petersburg, and The Great Embassy. Each one of these helped Peter I become the man he was.
At the beginning of Peter's reign they didn't have much of an army. There army was just a bunch of villagers that got together when need be. The villagers didn't have good equipment or good training. Then in 1699 Peter the Great organized the first standing army in Russia. The troops weren’t villagers that got together and fight, they were heavily trained and well equipped with more modern armor and weapons. At about the same time Peter the Great founded the first Russian Navy. This was a major improvement because the Russians didn't have a warm water port in till St. Petersburg was founded. These military accomplishments were important to Russia because they expanded Russia's Empire, could defend the Empire better, and more military victories. A notable victory from the Russian Navy is when they captured the Ottoman city of Azov in 1695.
St. Petersburg was a big accomplishment for Peter I because it was the first warm water port for Russia. Russia captured the Swedish fort of Nyenskans, which is present day St. Petersburg. It was a lot of work to make it a city because it was like a swamp all muddy. Then on May 27, 1703 St. Petersburg was founded. For a long time St. Petersburg was the capital of the Russian Empire till the fall of the Russian Empire in 1917.
Another big accomplishment for Peter I was the Great Embassy. That was a time of were Peter I toured western Europe from the time from 1697-1698. Western Europe influenced Peter I to become more Western Europe such called westernization. Westernization helped the influence of Russia in ways such as better education, different cloths, and Russia's first newspaper. Russia founded a lot more university's to get better educated for the future generations. Peter I made people were more Europe style clothing (the people of Russia did not like wearing those cloths). Also Russia had its first newspaper called the Vedomosti.
Those were some of Peter the Great's accomplishments under his rule.
