Legacy of Peter the Great
Peter the Great was born on June 9th 1672, and died on February 8th 1725. He left the Russian Empire with a legacy full of accomplishments. His main goal was to westernize Russia and become a power in the world. He was the first Tsar to organize a standing army for Russia. When he expanded his empire to the Baltic coast, he built the city of St. Petersburg, Russia's first warm-water port. That led to the creation of Russia's first navy. He also reorganized the the government to be more European.
He added the Senat, the highest government institution. He also added 10 semi-ministries called "Kollegii." He introduced poll tax which gave funding for an active foreign policy and boosted national manufacturing and trade.
